Lot Legends

A single-page site for a land maintenance business, built to turn visitors into quote requests.

This is a single-page website I made for Lot Legends, LLC, a locally owned land maintenance business in Hernando County, Florida. The whole page is built around one goal: getting someone from “I need my yard done” to a request for a quote as quickly as possible.

What’s on the site?

The quote form comes first. The hero puts the form right next to the headline, along with a phone number and email for anyone who’d rather call. On mobile, the form lives in a modal dialog that opens from a button, so it doesn’t push the rest of the page down.

Services. A tabbed section lists lawn maintenance, tree removal, tree trimming, power washing, and sod installation, each with a photo, plus an “and more” tab for everything else they offer.

Reviews. A carousel of customer reviews, so a new visitor can see that real neighbors have used them.

What was challenging?

Keeping the form useful and spam-free. I wanted a custom-styled form that just sends the owner an email, with no backend to maintain. The form posts to Formcarry, and hCaptcha blocks bots. The captcha is verified on the server, so a bot can’t skip it by posting to the endpoint directly.

Tabs that don’t flash. The service photos are large, and loading them only when a tab was clicked meant an empty panel for a moment. I preload the hidden tab images as the section nears the screen, so switching tabs feels instant without slowing down the first load. I also made sure the tabs are exposed as a proper ARIA tablist, so they work with a keyboard and a screen reader.

Keeping it easy for the owner to edit. The services and reviews both live in plain JSON files, and the service images are matched by path at build time. If a path is wrong, the build fails instead of quietly shipping a broken image. Updating the site is a text edit rather than a code change.

Being found locally. The page includes a meta description, social sharing tags, and LocalBusiness structured data, so search engines know what the business does and where.

How was it built?

The site is built with Astro and Tailwind CSS, with the carousel handled by Splide, and it’s hosted on Vercel as a static site. Photos are compressed at build time with Astro Assets, and the hero image is sized to what each screen actually needs.

How fast is it?

I ran the live site through Lighthouse. On mobile it scores 100 for performance and 100 for SEO, with a first paint of 1.0s, a largest paint of 1.6s, and zero blocking time. Accessibility is 96 on mobile and 93 on desktop. Best practices comes in at 77, and that’s from the hCaptcha script, which sets third-party cookies. It’s a trade I’m happy to make to keep spam out of the owner’s inbox.
